This book traces the history of Delta Airlines from its humble beginnings in 1925, the year in which its predecessor company, Huff Deland Dusters, came into being as the world's first crop-spraying service. In 1929 the company branched into passenger services, providing a link between Dallas and Jackson, Mississippi. In 1942 service to New Orleans and Miami was initiated. Larger aircraft were added gradually, but it was Delta's takeover of Northeast Airlines in 1972 that completed the airline's transformation into an industry giant. Delta Air Lines Flight 191 - Delta Air Lines Flight 191 was an airline service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, bound for Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, California, by way of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. On the afternoon of August 2, 1985, Flight 191 crashed while on approach to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, killing 8 of 11 crew members and 128 of the 152 passengers on board and 1 person on the ground.

Delta Air Lines Flight 1141 - Delta Air Lines Flight 1141 was a flight that flew from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. On August 31, 1988, Flight 1141 crashed after takeoff from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

Airline call sign - Most airlines employ a distinctive and internationally recognised call sign that is normally spoken during airband radio transmissions as a prefix to the flight number. Partnair Flight 394 - Partnair Flight 394 was a chartered plane flight which crashed on September 8 1989 off the coast of Denmark 30 km north of Hirtshals. All the 50 passengers and 5 crew members onboard the aircraft perished making it the worst civilian airline disaster involving an all-Norwegian airline company.
